Fast Track Building Permit Process

What is the Fast Track Building Permit Service?

The Fast Track Building Permit Process provides you with the staff who will work closely with you from the application stage until the Town issues the permit, generally in 3 to 5 business days, as opposed to the standard 10 days.

What projects qualify for the Fast Track Building Permit Process?

Subject to the discretion of Building and Support Services Section staff the following projects may qualify for the Fast Track Building Permit service:
            ▪  basic decks
            ▪  small detached garages, carports and sheds
            ▪  demolition permits
            ▪  installing or converting to municipal water service or sanitary sewer
            ▪  making minor interior alterations including basement finishes
            ▪  changing heating or ventilation systems (except geo-thermal systems)
            ▪  making new or enlarged exterior wall openings (windows/doors)
            ▪  installing wood burning appliances (stoves, fireplaces)
            ▪  installing new plumbing fixtures/finishing roughed in plumbing

When is this service available?

The Fast Track Building Permit Service is available during regular business hours at the Town of Caledon.  Please note that if we receive your application after 2:00 p.m. we will not start the process until the following day.

Step by Step Guide

Step 1:  Verification of external agency or internal department approvals

Applicant verifies with the Town if their application requires any external agency or internal department approvals.  If yes, then approval from the external agency or internal department is required to be provided prior to submission.  If no, then proceed to submission process.

Step 2:  Submission process

Applicant submits the following documents:
            ▪  completed permit application form “Permit to Construct or Demolish”
            ▪  Schedule 1:  Designer Information
            ▪  external agency or internal department approvals (if applicable)
            ▪  2 sets of plans as required by the Building By-law drawn to scale
            ▪  applicable permit fee

Step 3:  Review process

Application is reviewed by the Counter Technician to determine compliance with the Ontario Building Code and Zoning By-law within 3 – 5 business days.

Step 4:  Notification

Applicant is notified within 3 – 5 business days that their permit is ready for issuance or whether we require additional information to complete the review.
