Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of
Privacy Act (MFIPPA)

The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOI) provides individuals with a right of access to general records held by municipalities and records containing an individual's own personal information. The Act also requires municipalities to protect personal information contained in their record holdings.

Requests

The Town of Caledon tries to provide as much information as possible to the public without requiring a formal FOI request. Persons wishing to access any records held by the Town of Caledon should first contact the department which holds the records. If you are unable to get all of the information you want informally, a formal FOI request can be filed.

How to Make a request

1.    Complete an Information Access/Correction Request Form  or write a letter stating that you would like to make an FOI request. Include as much detail about the information being requested as possible.

2.   Submit the request along with the $5.00 application fee, payable to the Town of Caledon, to:
Records/FOI Coordinator
Town of Caledon
6311 Old Church Road
Caledon ON   L7C 1J6

Usually a request is processed within 30 days.

Fees

The following fees may be charged in response to an FOI request:

Application Fee: $5 to be paid when you submit your request
Photocopies: $0.20 per page
Record Search & Preparation: $7.50 for each 15 minutes required to prepare records for disclosure
Computer programming: $15 for each 15 minutes needed to develop a program to retrieve information
CD’s: $10 for each CD

If it appears that the cost of processing your request will be more than $25, the Town will provide you with a fee estimate before granting access to the record. If the cost estimate is $100 or more, you may be required to place a deposit of 50% of the estimate before completing your request.

Appeals

If you are not satisfied with the Town's decision regarding your request, you may appeal the Town’s decision to the Information and Privacy Commissioner. This commissioner is an independent body which makes independent decisions under the Act, and may be contacted at:
