Serving in his second term as Regional
Councillor, Richard was first elected Area Councillor in 1997 and Regional
Councillor in 2003. An active member of Council, Richard involves himself in
all aspects of municipal concerns both for Ward 1 and on Town-wide issues.
Richard has also served as Peel Region’s representative on the Niagara
Escarpment Commission since 2001.
Richard was born in Boston and spent his
formative years in the Town of Dedham, Mass. After completing his Bachelor of
Arts degree at Marquette University, he served in the U.S. Domestic Peace
Corps, VISTA. In 1966 Richard immigrated to Canada. He earned a B.Ed. from
the University of Toronto shortly after arriving in Toronto. After serving in
a number of positions in the field of international development with OXFAM
and Canadian Organization for Development through Education, Richard
established a pottery business. Richard continued producing pottery full-time
until his election to Caledon Council. Since his election as Regional
Councillor, Richard has worked full-time in that capacity.
Richard has travelled throughout Europe,
West Africa, and Central America. He and has two adult children, Stefania and
Nik.

Doug
and his wife Doreen have lived in Ward 1 since 1970. They raised three sons
in Caledon and currently have the joy of introducing grandchildren to this
beautiful community.
Doug
holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) from Wilfrid Laurier University, a
Master of Education degree (M.Ed.) from the University of Toronto and a
diploma in Dispute Resolution also from the University of Toronto.
As a
long-time community member, Doug has worked and played in Caledon and has
contributed to the social fabric of the town. He is a retired school
administrator from the Peel District School Board. He taught at Herb Campbell
Public School in Campbell’s Cross, was Vice-Principal at Caledon Central
Public School in Caledon Village and Principal at Ellwood Memorial Public
School in Bolton. Doug was elected to the position of President of the Peel
Principals’ and Vice-Principals’ Association for two terms prior to his
retirement from the teaching profession.
Doug’s
background includes several respected positions of responsibility in the
Caledon Community, including: Alton/Caledon United Church, Charlestown
Residential School, Caledon Lion’s Club, Caledon Ratepayers, Town of Caledon
Recreation Committees, Caledon Minor Hockey and the Caledon Men’s Baseball
Association.
Since
retiring from the education field, Doug has created a home-based Caledon
business, ‘Means to Amend Mediation’. He is a Mediator on the Toronto and
Windsor Rosters of Ontario Mediators and is active in mediating Civil Cases
in both cities. Doug also works as
an educational consultant to students wishing to further their academic
careers in the United States of America, particularly student athletes. He
has consulted to a number of U.S. Universities including Oakland and Eastern
Michigan and has traveled from coast to coast in Canada speaking to students
and parents.
Doug’s
major focus will be to communicate regularly to the residents of Ward 1. He
is available to interact one-on-one with residents and assist with issues of
the day. He is eager to share his skills and enthusiasm to build the future
of this beautiful part of the world.
