2023 Year End Greetings

Dear Residents,

As we bid farewell to 2023, I want to take a moment to reflect on the numerous milestone achievements in Caledon this year. These accomplishments, diverse and unique, all share a common thread of teamwork and collaboration.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the residents, businesses, and community groups whose valuable input into our plans, programs, and surveys has been instrumental. Your active participation has provided us with crucial insights into what is important and needed, forming the foundation of our initiatives.

Allow me to begin by highlighting the impact of our 2023-2035 Strategic Plan for Caledon, shaped by resident input, setting the course for the next 12 years. This visionary plan guides our priorities in future business plans and budgets, reflecting exciting new directions across all aspects of life in Caledon.

In spring, we unveiled the Housing Pledge, outlining our commitment to meeting the Provincial Housing target of 13,000 residential units by 2031. We embrace responsible growth, aspiring to make Caledon the most livable and sustainable rural-urban community in Canada, while ensuring the integrity of our current and future communities.

Significant progress was made in improving transit service by extending route 18 Dixie trips north of Mayfield Road, aligning with our town-wide transit strategy. Anticipating further developments in 2024, our goal is to enhance access to public transit for residents and businesses.

Our business community, the heartbeat of Caledon, was celebrated with a spring lunch and fall breakfast. I express gratitude to our thriving businesses for their continuous support and engagement in the Town of Caledon. We continue to attract exciting businesses to Caledon and The Town of Caledon’s Economic Development team was recognized at the annual Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) Conference for their successful execution of the Downtown Bolton Revitalization Plan and leadership in the economic development field.

The opening of the 52,000-square-foot expansion of the Caledon East Community Complex had a positive impact, providing quality recreational facilities and community spaces for various events.

Prioritizing community and traffic safety, we implemented traffic calming projects, pedestrian crossovers, and automated speed cameras in Community Safety Zones. These measures are aimed at promoting safe driving behaviors, especially around schools and areas frequented by families, seniors, and children.

In anticipation of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, we took proactive measures to build our organizational foundation. By streamlining our corporate structure, we aimed to enhance efficiency, responsiveness, and adaptability. This strategic move not only simplifies internal processes but also fosters a culture of collaboration and positivity within our team.

Embracing an open-for-business approach, we sought to create an environment that welcomes innovation and growth. We have reopened our Town Café to create  and opening welcome space for visitors and staff. Our commitment to transparency and cooperation not only benefits our internal operations but also positions the Town of Caledon as a leader in the broader community. This approach is designed to attract and capitalize on new opportunities, ensuring that we remain dynamic and responsive to the evolving needs of our residents and businesses.

As we navigate the path toward the future, this streamlined and collaborative corporate structure serves as a strong foundation, enabling us to not only meet the challenges of tomorrow but to actively seek and embrace new possibilities that will contribute to the continued success and prosperity of Caledon.

As we reflect on the many achievements of 2023 and look forward to the New Year, a special acknowledgment goes to my dedicated colleagues on Council, whose unwavering commitment to the well-being of Caledon and the pursuit of the highest quality of life for our residents and businesses is truly commendable. Balancing the dynamics of both urban and rural settings is no small feat, but our commitment to strategically developing Caledon with a focus on its unique needs and aspirations, and safeguarding our future, remains steadfast.

My heartfelt thanks to the residents, businesses, Council colleagues, and staff for their unwavering support, dedication, and diligence. Wishing everyone the very best for a successful and fulfilling 2024.

Warm regards,

Mayor Annette Groves
