About Boards, Committees and Task Forces

The Town of Caledon promotes and encourages citizen participation. Boards, Committees and Task Forces play an important role as they provide advice and recommendations to Council on a wide range of matters.

Board and Committee meeting dates, agendas and minutes are posted on the Calendar.  Task Forces post meeting summary notes on their respective webpages.

Administrative Boards and Committees

Appeal Board

The Town of Caledon Appeal Board is a quasi-judicial committee that hears appeals of decisions made in accordance with the Business Licensing By-law, and the Animal Control By-law.

Property Standards Committee

The Town of Caledon Property Standards Committee is a quasi-judicial committee that hears appeals of decisions made in accordance with the Property Standards By-law.

Committee of Adjustment

The Committee of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial body that considers applications for minor variances from the Town's Comprehensive Zoning By-law and applications for severance (consent, easements, leases in excess of 21 years and lot additions).

Statutory Committees

Accessibility Advisory Committee

The Accessibility Advisory Committee assists Council regarding the accessibility standards outlined in the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001. The committee is also responsible for community awareness of all disabilities and identifying issues that will lead to the removal of the barriers for persons with disabilities

Heritage Caledon

Heritage Caledon advises and assists Council on matters related to designation under Parts IV and V of the Ontario Heritage Act and on other heritage matters in the community.

Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee

The Compliance Audit Committee receives and makes decisions on applications for compliance audits of campaign finances for Council candidates and registered third party advertisers in a municipal election or by-election. The Committee is also responsible for considering reports from the Town Clerk identifying contributors who appear to have contravened election contribution limits and deciding whether legal proceedings should be commenced.

Task Forces

Active Transportation Task Force

The new Active Transportation Task Force was approved by Council in December 2018 and considers matters of the former Cycling Task Force and School Traffic Safety Committee.

The purpose of the Active Transportation Task Force is to assist the Town on expanding all modes of active transportation activities. The Task Force will provide Staff with advice regarding active transportation matters, resulting in recognizable and measurable improvements in cultivating a healthier and safer community for active transportation in Caledon.

Climate Change Action Plan Task Force

The purpose of the Climate Change Action Plan Task Force will be to support and advise on the update of the Town’s Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP). Representing the needs and interest of the Caledon community in this process is crucial to the success of this Plan. 

Seniors' Task Force

The purpose of the Seniors' Task Force is to serve in an advocacy role to provide staff with assistance and advice on the development and implemenation of the Town's Adult 55+ Strategic Plan. The Seniors Task Force will assist in moving various initiatives forward and may provide advice regarding older adult matters within the municipality, as needed.

Council Committees

Audit Committee

The Audit Committee assists Council in maintaining the accountability and financial reliability of the municipality.

Code of Conduct Committee

The Code of Conduct Committee serves an advisory role to provde staff with assistance and advice on the development of a new Code of Conduct for Council's consideration

Golf Tournament Committee

The Caledon Council Community Golf Tournament Commitee organizes the annual charity golf tournament and selects recipients of the proceeds.

Other Agencies, Boards and Working Groups

Bolton Business Improvement Area (BIA)

The Bolton Business Improvement Area (BIA) is responsible for the improvement, beautification and maintenance of municipally owned lands, buildings and structures within the BIA area.

Caledon Sports Hall of Fame Working Group

The Caledon Sports Hall of Fame (CSHOF) was established in 2018. The hall was created as a place to recognize, memorialize and celebrate the accomplishments of Caledon athletes and teams. 

The Working Group will review, support and advise on the procedures and criteria for nominations, manage the nominations process, have an active role in the induction celebration, and more.

Public Library Board

The Public Library Board oversees the operation of Town of Caledon public libraries to ensure appropriate and efficient library service.
