Regional Government Review

Regional Government Review

The Province is reviewing the governance, decision-making and service delivery functions of selected regional governments and their lower-tier municipalities.

The Region of Peel and its lower-tier municipalities of Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga are included in this review. The review aims to help ensure that these municipalities are working effectively and efficiently and can continue to provide the vital services that communities depend on.

The Province invited individuals and organizations to participate in provincial consultations through in-person presentations, written submissions and an online survey. The provincial consultations (including the survey) are now closed.  In early summer of 2019, the special advisors conducting the review are expected to provide recommendations to the Minister on opportunities to improve regional governance and service delivery.

On April 30, 2019 Caledon Council unanimously adopted a motion to support the continuance of a two-tier government structure in the Region of Peel.

Caledon residents were able to provide feedback to Council by taking an online survey (now closed), attending in-person “Coffee with Council” sessions on May 4 and 11, or participating in the public meeting portion of the June 25, 2019 Council meeting.

Commissioned at the request of the Region of Peel, an independent financial impact analysis of service delivery models was conducted by Ernst and Young. The completed report was released May 21, 2019 and submitted to the Special Advisors conducting the provincial review.  Following the release of the report the Town of Caledon issued a media release stating its response to the report.

Other Advocacy Efforts

Recent advocacy efforts include:

Town Council advocates on behalf of Caledon residents to influence legislative, regulatory and policy changes made by other levels of government that may affect programs and services delivered to Caledon residents. These efforts are based on strategic priorities identified in the Council Work Plan, the Town's budget and its operational plans.
